  Dear Yuuichi:

Your letter of July 12 was a wealth of information.Thank you for taking the time to supply me with the data.

The picture of the various camp commanders was given to me while I was in England three years ago.I do not know how they got it.I have found it very interesting in putting names to the variousfaces in the photo.Thnak you for your help.I am enclosing several items which may be be of interest to you. Both are self-explanatory.

It appears that the photo of the officer in chow line will remain a mystery,or at least it will be questionable.

It was most interesting to learn that the Japanese Staff at Omori had to move to a different location;although I am not surprised. The place was a mess when we left there as the men were no longer concerned about keeping the place clean.Last November ***1992*** I found a photo in the National Archives in Washington,D.C.,which showed the inside of Barrack's No.6. Trash covered the floor and sleeping decks. It was taken by the Army.

I had not seen or heard about the sentences given in the War Crimes traials until I received your letter.Personally,I believe many were too harsh : especially for Col.Suzuki and Col.Sakaba.Generally,I am not in favor of such trials as they can be so unfair,Perhaps they should only envolve the heads of government.

I am glad that you had enjoyable trip to Egypt.I also find traveling stressful at the age of 74(in October).

In July,I went to Denver,Colorado, for 5 nights to see my oldest daughter and her family. Then I went to Colubus,Ohio,to see my youngest daughter and family. From there,I went to San Francisco for a few days before going to Benicia to visit an uncle and aunt.Three days were spent in Sacramento with a widowed aunt (she is Japanese)and her son's family.I went back to San Francisco for three nights before coming home.It was 100。 for two days. Very unusual for the City.I stayed home for three days before driving to Port Aransas, near Corpus Christi on the Texas coast. My daughter and family from Colorado were there and my son came from South Padre Island (sothern tip of Texas).I then went to S.Padre Island for several days.

It had been very hot here for the past month or so.Temperature has been at 100。for days.Today,a second was broken.55 days without rain.Unusually,we have only a few days a year at that temperature and get around 32 inchs of rain a year.Last year and up until July, we have had more than he normal amounts of rain.

Next month***1993-9***,I am planning to go to Europe, but I will have to wait and see what the Air Force has on it's schedule from Kelly AFB in San Antonio.I would like to see Spain or Greece. There are so many places I want to visit, but so little time left to do so.

I have not heard from Sam nor Nakajima-san in a very long time. In April,I sent each of them a copy of a book written by Frank Fujita, who was in Omori for a short time before being sent to Bunka(Propaganda Camp). As of now,I have not heard if they received the books. You may be interested in borrowing a book and reading it.

Yesterday I received a copy of "Christmas in Omori" from Ricky (Reiko Posner),the Japanese girl from Los Angels, who came here with her camera-man and sound-man along with Sam and then Nakajima.

A quick review of the tape was most interesting, although most of it was in Japanese.I will have to find someone here,or my Japanese aunt in California, to translate it for me.

I am very happy to see how the area around the old camp has developed.Pictures are much better than verbal descriptions.Several pictures were of particular interest to me.The overhead view of the camp, which showed the length of the bridge, and the one showing the old bridge, were ones that I would like to have for my collection. No one can describe the bridge or tell how long it was at that time.I have been trying to determine the exact demensions of the barracks, walls and bridge. I noticed a lot of my material was used in the video. It also created some questions. When was it shown on Japanese television?Where was Tojo housed in the camp? What barracks?

I enjoyed seeing the motion pictures of the POWs when we were released. These were evidently taken from some news reel films.I have been trying to get hold of the original film taken at that time, but I am afraid they have been destroyed. All I have been able to find are the news reel films in the National Archives.I would have to buy the whole roll of film in order to get a few brief pictures. This was too expensive for me. It would be nice to have the original and complete motion picture film of our release.

You are much more photogenic than I am in the Video. You look very good. Thanks again for your help.

Sincerely
BOB
