Dear Yuichi:

Thank you for the informative letter of the 24th. I appreciate your efforts to get the list to Draggan as I wanted him to know I was able to notify everyone on it about the CBS Special. He called me on Friday at 5pm to tell me the date. I had just finished putting the lists in the envelopes, but I had not sealed them. This enabled me to get a small slip ( note ) into each one, instead of having to redo the whole process. I sent out about 225 envelopes. Draggan's call came at the last minute. It was what we say -"a close call " or "at the 11th. hour ".

My big news is that I have located Richard Gordon and by accident ( it just happened. ) After I received your letter Friday, I went through an old list ( roster ) of the members of the American Ex-POW Association. The listing for a Richard Gordon was the name of his widow. I knew that could not be same one. I then called several people hoping they would know him. No luck, so I decided to just wait until you could give me the information.

When I send out an up-dated list, there are always a few which are returned due an address change or for some other reason. I will then try to find them by telephone. One letter was returned which seemed strange, or in error, because I had exchanged Christmas cards with him and had telephoned him earlier in the month. I telephoned him and found out there had been a change in the name of his street. When I told him about the CBS Special, he said he knew about it from another friend. I asked him -"Who? " He said from Rich Gordon in New York. He gave me the address and telephoned number. I called the man on Saturday and he confirmed he was the one I was interested in contacting. We talked for about 45 minutes. It opened-up a new area of interest for me. He is sending me some material and explanations about W. i may go to see him when the weather is warmer in Burnt Hills, New York. Now I am glad that one letter was returned.

Thank you for your willingness to make an endorsement. I msut apologize for suggesting the name of Tojo's son. It was inappropriate.

I am very happy that all went well with Zamperini and that you had a chance to be with them. it was a big event. You must now be a well-known person in Japan. I am amazed about the number of people you know.

In regards to your questions about Zamperini and Goldsworthy , I am not sure about some of the facts. I clearly recall Lou making the broadcast as he gave his message to Maher for approval. We both read it and Maher made some suggestions. This is detailed on page 174 in your copy of my manuscript. I do not know if Lou worked on the out-side details with the men. He did work with the officers on the garden detail and other camp chores. Goldsworthy was in the Special Barracks and some of them ( all ranks ) did go into the Omori area to clean-up the roadways and tec. after the bombings. They did other chores in order to get full rations. However, they wewe kept away from the regular POWs. This is also explained in the manuscript.

I received a note from Lou and he told me about his recent visit to Nagano and how glad he was to visit with you.

I msut close now as I have to write Lou and answer other letters today.

Looking forward to sending you on TV.

Sincerely
B0b
