| Dear Yuichi: Your comment about the cherry trees being in full bloom reminded me about the times I saw them in Washington, D.C. when I was in school there and again more recently in California. They are beautiful at that time. Our beauty in the Spring are the wild flowers. Three weeks ago, my son and I took a weekend trip to Llano in the hill country just to the west of Austin. Although the rains have been light this Spring, flowers in that area were very beautiful. The mild winter and lack of rain has effected the peach orchards in the Fredericksburg area. The peach crop will be small this year. I was happy to learn about the two ladies who came to see you and about their research on the POWs camps. I have always been confused about when the northern camps were transferred to the Sendai Army Headquarters. The frequent change in designation ( Number and Name ) of the camps has made it difficult to identify a particular camp. Fortunately, I did find and got one document from the National Archives which has been of some help. I had wanted to include it in my book, but there were some difficulties in reproduing it at that time. Perhaps I will be able to get it included when,and if , the book is reprinted. I am enclosing a copy of the document for Mrs.Sasamoto because I believe it can be of assistance in doing her research. She may be able to find the original Japanese document in the files of the PW Information Bureau , if they are still available. I want to wish her good fortune in her research. My main difficulty in using the list was due to my lack of knowledge about the various locations in Japan. It will be interesting to see the results of her research.
