Dear Yuichi:

I am very glad to report that my surgery went very well and that no further treatment is necessary. The healing process has been slow, but I am now feeling about normal. I am going to San Francisco on Wednesday (5th) and will be gone about a week. I have been wanting to do some research in the S.F.newspaper files for a long time. This will also give me a chance to increase my strength by walking the hills.

Your letter of June12th was very interesting. The news about Watanabe willing to receive letters from the ex-POWs is a surprise I am curious about who was interested in contacting him, but I will not try to find out at this time. I was also tempted to write him, but I do not think it would be advisable to do so because I did not portray or show him as a good person in my book.

Mrs.Sasamoto did send me a photo-copy of the picture showing Kano and me. I appreciated her consideration very much. Some day I hope to get a hard photograph copy ( like the original ) so that it will be more distinct ( a better likeness ).

In January, I was considering going to Japan in mid-March or April. I may reconsider it after the docotors have given me a final O.K. ( alright ) when I see them next month.

Saturday (1st) I took my son to Fredericksburg and spent the night. He had not seen the new Presiden(t?) Bush Gallery at the Nimitz Museum. He was very impressed with the displays and surprised to see some of the items which I had given to the museum.

My best wishes to you and your wife.

Sincerely
Bob
