マーティンデール氏と八藤雄一先輩の手紙

July 21, 2002
Dear Yuichi:

This note is to let you know that I will not be going to Philadelphia to meet with Tobita on August 1st.

I feel that it is important that I maintain the family tradition of being with my son and daughter when they celebrate their birthdays ( two days apart ) during the first week in August. This year they had arranged to take some of their vacation time to be together on South Padre Island which is near Brownsville where they were born and had lived for so many years. They like to do this about every five years instead of being together in Austin or San Antonio.

Please express my regrets to Tobita is my not being able to meet him. I had considered the possibility of going there for two days and then flying directly to Brownsville on the 2nd to be with my family on the 3rd. This would have been a difficult trip for me to make and to schedule. I would not have minded doing this if I was five years younger.

I have asked Barrete to relay my decision to you the next time he sends an e-mails to Japan.

My best wishes to you and your family.

Sincerely
Bob
