マーティンデール氏と八藤雄一先輩の手紙

Sep 25, 2002
Dear Yuichi:

I was extremely happy to receive the additional identifications and corrections of the Japanese camp commanders and staff members photograph because I consider it as a very important historical itme. It would have been a very good addition in my book if there had been enought positive identifications at the time. Your comments about Ishige are also interesting to know about. Hopefully, your contact with him will be benefit to both of you.

Enclosed is a corrected list of the people in the photo for your approval. I thank you for your efforts in making these identifications because I realize how difficult it is in trying to remember faces after so many years. One copy is for you and the other can be returned to me with any necessary corrections.

I do not have any other news of significance at this time.

The Nimitz Museum, now called " The National Center for the War in the Pacifi", is having its annual symposium this Saturday. The topic is "The Commanders". This meeting will be small because they are running out of topics which draw the large crowds; plus, there are fewer interested individuals who are able to make the trip. Current travel security is also a factor. Although I am not very interestd in the topic, I may go there for the day in order to hear what Dr. Donald M.Goldstein from the University of Pittsburg has to say about the Japanese leaders; especially about Gen. Tojo. I have to be back in Austin in time to get to a party that same evening.

Please give me best wishes to all of the people with whom you will be meeting with(x?) on October 7th.

Sincerely
Bob
