Dear Yuichi; Your letter of April 28 was welcomed. I appreciate hearing from you as I learn more about Omori.Your explanation about the pay scale for 2nd. Lt.'s is most interesting. Most of our money want into some type of saving account. We were alloted 10 a month into the camp canteen. Since there was so little to buy there, Capt. Wimer would give us the cash so that we colud buy items on the "Black Market ". Since this was illegal, Wimer had to keep a double set of books. One set for the Japanese to see and one set for us. It was never discovered. Thank you for clarifying the identity of the people in the pictures. I have had a picture made of only Watanabe. I do hope you will give me permission to use it. Iregret the misspelling of the word-Cocoa.Unfortunately, my typewriter has a habit of not spelling words correctly. Again, I am asking for your help in the identification ofindividuals in some photos I have received. One photo shows the various Camp Commanders of the Tokyo Area. I have been given several possible identifications. Can you provide any more information? The second photo shows a Japanese officer receiving some food after the U.S. Navy came to Omori. I think it is Lt.Muragishi, whom we called "Gentleman Jim". Thank you again for all of the information. Sincerely, Bob |
