Dear Yuichi: I was sorry to learn you were in the hospital,so I now presume you are doing much better. Tom Wade did a very good job on his book. The first time it was printed in London by his son as a surprise birthday present, it contained a number of errors. I called his attentions to some of them that concerned Omori. The biggest erro was the date of the first B-29 over Tokyo. He had it as September I instead of November 1st. This time he hedged on it by not giving the exact date.I have not yet had time to read this edition. I had hoped to get on an Air Force flight to Europe on August 30, but it was cancelled. Now I am hoping to get on a flight scheduled on the 16th of this month. Unfortunately, the flight goes to Germany, so I will have to hope I can make it to England. I may delay in sending this letter until the 16th. I got a letter yesterday from George Plimer in New Zealand. He was the British soldier who had lost his legs. He worked as a cobbler in Omori(repaired shoes). He said the time in question on the Emperor's Rescript was- "5.04 G.M.T.". He did not given any reason for it. I did not know about Richard Friedmand and the story about Lt.Cato. I must close for now as I have a lot of things to do before I leave ( I hope!). Sincerely, Rob |
