Dear Yuichi: The day after I sent you my last letter[1/16],I received a copy of the letter which Helen McDonald of the Nimitz Museum had sent to you inviting you to come to Texas for the Symposium in San Antonio in March. Helen called me last night to tell me she had received a letter from you in which you said you needed a little time to think about the invitation. She asked me to write you and urge you to accept. I feel I should not do this (urge you ) as it is decision you should make based upon how it would effect your travel plans to New Zealand and later the "Round the World" ( via Texas) trip. Since I know the position you are in as you make a decision which is affected by the shortness of time and the value to you by coming here at that time, I am only goingt to give you some information, as I know it, which may be of value to you in making your decision. The museum will provide you with-(1) round-trip air fare from Japan to Texas, (2) 3-4 nights hotel in San Antonio, and (3) lunch each day, Any additional days would do at your own expense. I would hope you would stay 3-4 days longer so that I could show you around this part of Texas and you could have more time to visit. You would be on a panel ( group of participants ) on stage. Due to the difficulty many Americans have in understanding a Japanese speaking in a microphone,Helen may have me on stage with you and to read a 7-10 minute statement which you had submitted to her earlier. Hopefully in your case, this will not be necessary. Then you will answer any questions the audience may ask of you. Enclosed is a preliminary agenda. Helen will be contacting you soon. If you accept, I will be looking forward to seeing you. Sincerely, Bob |
