Again , you are ahead of me on correspondence. I am very glad that the situation at Naoetsu improved enough so that the Peace Ceremony could take place in harmony. I can understand why there has been so much emotional debate about honoring those Japanese convicted of war crimes. Often there is a very fine line between a soldier carrying out a superior's orders and when he has exceeded those orders. It is a difficult distinction to make clear.Time dims facts and national pride, emotions or attempt for justification becom paramount. What is right or wrong depends upon from what perspective the question is viewed. I agree with you in thinking Tom Wade's book would not be received very well in Japan. Prof.Chaen's paper and diagram was very interesting. It took a lot of careful study to fully appreciate it. The guard towers at the corners of the Omori compound were evidently erected by the occupation forces. There were none while I was there. It was interesting to note that the barrack's numbers had been changed. I have always wondered in which barracks was Tojo confined? One news account seemed to indicate that he was in No.5 ( my barracks ). Do you want Prof. Chaen's diagram returned? The Mayor of Otaku sent me a nice letter. He asked if I had a photo which clearly showed the POW Camp being located in Omori. Unfortunately, I do not have one. I am having a copy made which shows the Omori area and the island where the camp was located. I will send it to him when it is ready. Thank you for confirming it was Lt.Muragishi in the photo receiving American chow. He was a very fine person and was well respected by the POWs in Omori. I will write his son. The past ten days have been busy for me. I went to San Antonio to see my daughter and her family. They took me out to dinner to celebrate my 76th birthday. It was a very nice time. My son was here for a few days. As I told you, he is being transferred from South Texas to Aust. He was going to try and find a house to buy, but decided it would be best to stay in an apartment for awhil so he could have more time to look for a house. He rented a smaller one in the same complex where I live. He will be four units away from my townhouse. He will be moving in within the next four days. I expect to be busy helping him for a while. My manuscript is finished and I am trying to find a publisher. It is unfortunete that I could not have completed it before this year as it will now be harder to find someone who is interested in it now. I may have a few copies bound to give to my children this Chiristmas. Thank you for all the news.
