Dear Yuichi:
Your letter of Feb.3rd arrived on the 9th. I quickly read it and then sent
it on to Helen. I just got it back so now I can answer it.Helen will be
writing to you this week. I do not know what she will say to you. Your recommendation
of Prof. Chaen and Capt.Kuramoto seem to be very good. It is unfortunate
that both are not in good health. I believe Helen may be asking you more
about Teruo Tojo. His views would be most interesting. I would like to have
the pleasure of meeting him. I must admit that most Americans do not consider
the name "Gen. Tojo" with kindness. It would be most interesting to learn
more about the man; if Helen invites the son to the symposium and he accepts.
I felt a hint of the feelings when I was briefly introduced to Gen.Tojo.
My feelings were somewhat reinforeced later when I began to think why the
Prime Minister of Japan would make two visits to a POW camp. Thank you for
the information about Mrs.Endo. It is always good to know something about
the person with whom you are in correspondence. I told you I had written
the cousin of a friend for information about the Norwegians. I heard from
him Saturday. A copy of his letter is enclosed. I will be writing to one
of the Norwegians. I was glad to get the picture of George P.He looks a
lot different than I had anticipated. Give my best regards to Sam and Nakajima.
Sincerely, Rob |
