Dear Yuuichi:
Your letter of February 28 was received today. I sent you a letter about
5 days ago.
Thank you for the picture. It is one that I enjoy seeing. I do not recall
hearing Watanabe being called Watanabe Kempei. However, he did imply that
he was connected with the Kempeitai, which was not true according to what
you have told me. I did not know that he was at Mitsushima.
I am very sure that Henry Cornellisson was not at Omori. I do not recall
his name nor has he been in contact with me. The American EX-POW Association
has him listed in their national directory as being in a Kawasaki camp.
I have not heard McGrew for about a year.
Your activity with the Suwa project and also with the entertaining the
Aussies is highly commendable. I am sure that they appreciate your work.
The proposed trip to Turkey should be very interesting. Four years ago
I flew AF to Adana, Turkey, and then by commercial plane to Istanbul.
It is a very unusual city. I would like to go back again. A more elderly
friend from Austin was with me and he is not as adventureous as I. I would
have liked to spend more than four days there. We did take a ferry across
the Sea of Marmara to Bandirma and then on a very boring train ride to
Izmir. We took a due to see the ruins of Ephesus. He came back home early.
I took a day trip by bus to see Bodrum, which I enjoyed, before going
back to Adana to catch an AF plane home. Next time I would concentrate
on Istanbul and Ankara.
I have no define plans for this year, other than my trip next trip next
week to California with my oldest daughter and her two sons. They will
visit with her sister while I see my elderly uncle and aunt. We will get
together in San Francisco for two days. It is a short trip. I will sign-up
for an Air Forece flight, but I will have to wait to see when and where
a plane will be going in April or May. Last year I thought of going to
Japan, but the need to have some extensive dental work prevented me from
going anywhere. Now I will wait to see where the wings of an Air Forece
plane may take me. Perhaps- no where.
Your comment about the Sam's and Nakajima's project is most interesting.
I would be writing to be a part of it if they are interested.
I am enclosing an Errata page which should be put in your copy of my manuscript.
It lists the corrections which should be made. One copy is for Mrs.Endo.
Please give her my best regards.
I do hope that you will be able to make it to Texas sometime in the near
future.
Sincerely
BOB
