Dear Yuichi: I will not be doing any overseas traveling in April or May because my dental work has taken so long. Each appointment has been two to three weeks apart. This has prevented me from making any long trips. Then I am committed to attend the American Defenders of Bataan & Corregidor meeting in San Antonio on May 18-22. Therefore, it may this Fall before I make a foreign trip. This has been a disappointment for me because I have been restless to go on a good trip. You should have a good trip in June and July to the north countries The weather will be warmer than when I was there in Oslo in May. I still regret not having the time to get to Bergen and the area north of there. I am very glad I got to visit with Capt. Karlsen before he died in December. Yesterday, I went to Eakin Press to order the two books for Mr.Mori.I was told he had already ordered the books from them and the books had been sent last week. I also found out that the Press had not located a book distributor in Japan. Since it is a small publishing company and does not have the experience in selling books abroad, I believe it will be a slow process for the company to find a distributor or agent in Japan. When the book is distributed in Japan an endorsement by Teru Tojo would be a welcomed and appreciated help in selling it. I consider his thoughts of possibility endorsing the book a very high honor. If you think it would be appropriate. I will send a personal autographed copy for him so that you could give it to him. Now in reply to Mr.Mori's making a translation of the book. I do not believe there are any legal grounds (reasons) which would prevent an individual from making a translation for his personal use, but not for publication. However, since Mr.Mori is a respected and competent translator, there is the possibility that he could present the completed translation to Eakin Press for its approval to be published in Japan. I believe Mr.Mori understands and recognizes this possibility and that he is willing to gamble ( take a chance ) on the out-come (results)of his efforts. I am making these comments only as a possibility because I cannot give an approval for a translation, or do so for Eakin Press, at this time. I have not heard if Jim Sansom has received a copy of the video about Tojo; so I presume a copy has not been sent to him. I will end this letter now so that I can get it in the mail today. I will finish answering your letter later. Sincerely Bob Robert R. Martindale |
