Dear Yuichi:

Your letter of the 14th. was received with much interest and appreciation because it helped me to learn something about the the personality of Ms.Nansai. This information will be of benefit to me when, and if, I write to her again. I was disappointed to learn that she apparently does not have some of the good qualities or characteristics which her father had. I was particularly disappointed to learn of her rudeness to you. However, I am thankful that she had the copy of the diary sent to me. I can only hope that she will be able and willing to send me a copy of the photograph.

I again want to thank you for taking the time and effort to make the notes in the diary. I do not recall any thing about Lt.Emori; except that the name seems familiar. I tried to avoid the Japanese officers as much as possible. The exceptions were "Gentleman Jim" and the "Marionette". I do not remember the "Marionette's" name. Lt.James Davis (p.116) was a naval engineer at the Cavite Naval Yard in the Philippines (p.184 in my book). Lt.Glade Stockwell was also in the Philippines. I do not remember very much about him except to say he was a quite(quiet?) person and enjoyed repairing watches of the Japanese. He is mentioned on page 108 in my book. Lt.Col.Pike was a tall and well built individual. He had been a semi-professional football player before the war.(pp.99, 110,179).

I am now feeling much better. I still need a little more dental work and have lost a lot of weight (12 pounds ). My big need is to get more exercise. So I am hopingto go to San Francisco next month to walk the hills and to do some research in the newspaper files at the S.F. library. The West Coast has been getting a lot of rain and I hope it will have better weather when and if I go there.

My best wished to you and your wife.

Sincerely
Bob
