Dear Yuichi: This will be a short and quick note to let you know that your letter of Nov.17th. and Kano's diary arrived yesterday. I thank you very much for your efforts in sending it to me. My special thanks go to Kano's daughter. I did not know he had been in prison until long afterwards and I have been very angry that the government made such a bad mistake. I am very happy to see the diary and especially the photographs of Kano and his family. The pictures on page 12 were of special interest. The one of Joe Mills and Private Ito (the camp clerk) was taken by Watanabe and he also took one of me and Ito. Unfortunately, mine was lost when I sent it to a phtography studio to be reproduced soon after the war. The POW shown with Kano and Kempei is me. I recall the phto being taken. I hope Kano's daughter still has a copy of it because I would very much like to have a copy. It would have been a valuable in my book. It will take time for me to go through the diary and reply to your comments. Some dental and medical problems are showing me down in getting my work done. A bad cold right after Christamas has made me get far behind in answering correspondence. Again, I thank you and Ms Nansei for the documents. Sincerely Bob Robert R. Martindale |
