    In a minute reach from Hitotsubashi, Kunitachi Campus, The International House provides a nice environment for study (Though we do it or not, I mean it J) and a very best place to exchange views and opinions with people from various cultures. Basically, most of Thai’s Monbukagakusho scholarship students, especially research students, are arranged to live here for 6 months.

   The international House of Hitotsubashi University is a residence for foreign students and researchers which was built in 1992 and is located next to Hitotsubashi University, Kunitachi West Campus, approximately 10 minutes walk or 5 minutes by bicycle. The international House consists of 2 building (A-kan and B-kan). A-kan provides 63 single rooms approximately 16-18 rooms in each floor while B-kan offers 20 furnished apartments for couples and families.

    Apart from staffs in the main office of the residence, there are four more Japanese students living in the house. They work as leaders of the residence and are in charge of specific floors. You can just ask them for any advices about living in Japan and they are really nice. 

    The size of the single rooms is approximately 12 m2 including a toilet. Each room connected with direct fix line telephone . Unfortunately, Internet connection has not yet been provided by now.  Residents share a big kitchen and dining room, a lobby and 3 shower rooms in each floor. These facilities are cleaned up everyday by the International House. 3 washing 3 machines and 3 dryers are also provided in each floor free of charge. The residents can obtain the laundry card from the office as needed. The total rental fee per month, excluded electricity bill is about 19,300 yen (rate of the year 2003)

JAPANESE COURSE FOR FOREIGN STUDENT

    For the student who get the monbunsho schorlarship and came to study here as a research student, don’t worry if you have no any knowledge of Japanese, because the foreign student division of Hitotsubashi will provide a six months Japanese course for you. Your status during the six months Japanese course will be “center student”. The course will be everyday form 9 am to 4 pm. During this time, you have to concentrate on studying Japanese, no need for joining other major course. After six months, your status will be changed to “research student” and have the attend in the other course rather than Japanese, like your advisor’s seminar or other subjects that important for your entrance exam.   

     Besides from the six-months Japanese course, in order to enhance your Japanese, and also let you know more about Japanese traditional and lifestyle, Hitsubashi also provides you the Host family and Japanese Tutor Program.

    For Host family program, you will be recommended to a Japanese volunteer family that will help you get used to Japanese life-style as fast as possible. you will meet them and talk or study with them at least once a week for six months to one years, depending on the situation.

      Further more, you are also recommend to a Japanese student that will be your tutor for one year. You can have a tutor that is in the same major with you. For some foreign student, tutor is the first Japanese friend. Tutor  will not only help you in studying Japanese, he also invites you many things about Japan in the eyes of young man.  

UNIVERSITY TRIP

    With support from Monbunsho, in every vacations, Hitotsubahsi will organize some trips for foreign student at the low price. Everyone have one chance in a year to go traveling with the university trip. But as for the number of foreign student here, not everyone can join the trip, They choose to lucky man by lottery.  

PREPARING FOR ENTRANCE EXAM

    For the one, who come here as a research student, and is going to continue the master degree. You have to take the entrance exam that is different depending on the faculty you apply for.

•    Economics, there are twice a year, on September and February of every years.

•    Commerce, there is only once  a year on September.

•    Social and Law

   For the detail of exam, you don't need to worry about it now. You can have all of the information, when you come here and ready to take the exam.....

OTHERS

Basically, there is no needed to specifically need to bring from home apart from your clothes ,some books and some personal needs.. Actually, you can find everything here.

• Electric appliances are provided at Tachikawa (one stop from Kunitachi) or  the second hand appliances information can also be found by checking on the notice board around the campus.
• Moreover, all the beddings stuffs can be rent from the office for the first 2 weeks. Mattress is provided in all rooms. However, after 2 weeks of arrival, you needed to buy your own bed sheets and blanket. A vacuum pillow (can be found at Discount store in Thailand) might be a good idea if you can bring it here!.
• For those who love to cook, it might be good to bring some of Thai seasonings here. However, you can also find Thai seasonings around Tokyo as well.
• n terms of personal care, this really depends from person to person, however, it is advised to bring small bottles of shampoo and soap for the first week when you are still busy with the settling down.
• Last but not lease, Garbage disposal is one of the big concerns here. All residents are required to divide all  garbage into many categories when it comes to the disposal; combustible, non-combustible, plastic, carton, glass bottle and can, newspaper and magazine, as well as a bulky object.  Anyway, don’t worry! All well-trained Thais here could teach you how to make it right (hopefully) !
