We were all very shocked.
Our father was healthy and vibrant for a 92-year-old.
He loved life in every way and enjoyed the simplest things like walking in the garden and eating a delicious meal.
He happily sang his favourite songs, read his beloved books till the late hours, debated politics, and demonstrated tai chi to his grandchildren. He was watching old French movies on TV when I saw him in the summer.
Now it's autumn, and I think how much my father loved the changing colours of the Canadian landscape.

A week before he passed away, he remarked to his caregiver, "What a wonderful life!"

Sadly for us, it is also a fragile life.
Our father became ill on Sunday, October 16 while at home.
He recovered a little in the doctor's care, but on Wednesday morning (Toronto time 9.37), while my younger sister, Irene, was at his bedside, and I was on Skype with them, he suddenly fell unconscious and slipped away.

He did not suffer, and this was how he wanted to go, peacefully and at home, his home of 46 years.
His mind was sharp and lucid to the very end.

Warm regards,
Angie Chang

Dear Ms.Angie Chang,

ED just wrote to me "waiting Autumn colored maple leaf in Toronto" on October 6.

It shocked me very much receiving your mail. I am very, very sad.

He is going to heaven where his wife is waiting for him.

With deepest sympathy,

Dear Yamatan,

Dear Mr. Yamazaki,

Thank you for your comforting words.

I know he has gone to see our mother.  He asked us to dress him in his favourite woollen vest she knitted for him, so that she would recognize him.

Thank you for passing the news to Josuikai and to the December Club.
He spoke of you and his wonderful time in university in his "French class" very often.

I know that you and he were the youngest in the class.  He enjoyed many happy years of correspondence with you, and your presence in his life contributed to his longevity.

Please keep well.  Thank you again for your friendship to our father, ED.

Sincerely,
Angie
